Upset Planned for Battleground Match? Tamina Working with Lana
August 1, 2020
On the most recent edition of Smackdown, we saw the return of two major WWE Superstars. John Cena and then Rusev both returned on the Independence Day edition of Smackdown, and the two of them set up a flag match at the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view. John Cena fought Rusev previously at Wrestlemania 31, and a few of the following pay-per-views, wherein he won nearly every match that they had. Fans may be worrying that John Cena will just defeat Rusev all over again, but apparently that may not be the case after all. It’s being reported that a major upset could happen during their match at the Battleground pay-per-view.
According to Bryan Alvarez on the latest edition Wrestling Observer Live, it seems more likely that Rusev could actually be the one to win the flag match at Battleground. Alvarez explained that the move will give more credibility to Rusev while not taking much steam away from Cena. The feud between the two men is still scheduled to be a short one, and the entire program could be over after just this one match at Battleground. The two of them are both going to be making their in-ring returns on the pay-per-view, and they will be fighting to grab either the Bulgarian or American flags. Battleground is going to be taking place on July 23rd, 2017.
After losing her third Women’s Championship match to Naomi, Lana was quickly comforted by Tamina. Wrestling News reported that it does indeed look like Tamina is going to be working as Lana’s official bodyguard for a while. Lana was originally given a bodyguard in developmental by the name of Sage Miller (formerly Rosie Lottalove in TNA). The company has decided that they will be giving her a bodyguard after all, but just with a different person in the role. Tamina has worked as a bodyguard for several wrestlers over her career, most famously for AJ Lee. The angle we saw on Smackdown this past week will be the start of the new partnership.
