Syrian War Victim Who Used Tin Cans To Walk, Will Now Walk On Prosthetic Limbs
December 14, 2019
The Syrian crisis has led to a severe dearth of medical attention in the area. Even children have had to live with discomforts and injuries until more medical facilities are available.
In such a condition, eight-year-old Maya Merhi, who was born with no legs, had to shuffle around a camp in northern Syria on makeshift limbs fashioned from old tubing and tin cans, made by her father. Now she is taking her first tentative steps in Istanbul on prosthetic legs, after images of her struggling in the tent encampment in Idlib appeared on social media and she was brought to Turkey.
