Several Factors Reportedly Cause Vince McMahon To Completely Rewrite This Week’s WWE RAW
August 4, 2021
While there is always going to be a percentage of fans who aren’t happy with the product no matter how good or bad it is, this week’s post-Elimination Chamber edition of WWE RAW has received a tremendous amount of negative feedback, with many of the more confusing creative decisions leaving the viewers scratching their heads.
Apparently, a big reason this week’s show felt so incredibly random, almost as if it were pieced together at the very last minute, is because — well, it was.
According to Dave Meltzer via Wrestling Observer Radio, Vince McMahon arrived at the Cajundome in Lafayette, LA later than usual, and was forced to re-write almost the entire show. The final script actually wasn’t finished until 30 minutes after it began airing live on television, and changes were reportedly made as late as the second hour!
One big reason for all the changes is that Seth Rollins was supposed to be the focal point of the episode, and was “all over” the original script. As noted, the Royal Rumble winner has been kept out of the ring for the last few weeks to rest up, as he is dealing with a back injury, and WWE obviously wants him to be 100% in time for his WrestleMania main event.
While Rollins’ injury does not require surgery, and he simply needs more time to rest up, it was thought that he could work a match at any point if they really needed him to. Apparently he arrived to RAW on Monday night and was NOT cleared by the WWE medical staff, forcing a total re-write of all his segments on the show.
As Meltzer also reported, the original plan was to have a match between Ricochet and Finn Balor which was changed at the last minute. Finally, Ronda Rousey was supposed to wrestle Alexa Bliss in the RAW main event, but they wanted the match to go long and it was thought Ruby Riott could handle the role better, and produce a better match with virtually no time to put anything together.
