Schumer: Dems didn't 'tell people what we stood for' in 2016

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Sunday that Democrats’ number one mistake during the 2016 election was not telling voters what the party stood for.

During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Schumer discussed the Democrats’ new economic agenda, which he said they will unveil on Monday.

“The number one thing that we did wrong is we didn’t tell people what we stood for,” Schumer said during the interview.

The party’s new economic agenda will focus on “A better deal for working families,” Schumer said.

Schumer said the goal of the plan is to appeal to both the coalition of Obama voters that failed to show up the polls in 2016, as well as the Democrats who flocked to President Trump during the 2016 election.

“It’s going to really impress the American people, it is not going to be left or right. It is going to be totally focused on working people,” Schumer said.
