The 9th of November 2014, another date probably volleyball fans will remember as the day Nantes VB claimed historic win against former champion RC Cannes. Almost three years since Ravva and co. have been dominating the national league, Nantes managed to sweep away home victory 3:2 (20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 15-13) in the remake of last season’s finals. 30 points scored by Juliann Faucette for Racing could not stop the team spirit of Nantes and the outstanding offensive of middle blockers Sherri Williams (20 points) and Angie Bland (19 points), as well as the important contribution of Ariel Turner (19 points). Three games after the Open Feminin and a couple of days away from their debut as rookies in the Champions League, Nantes shares the first place with ASPTT Mulhouse in the French League.
Worth mentioning that the first game of CEV Deniz Bank Volleyball Champion League is scheduled the upcoming Wednesday, when Nantes VB meets Azeryol Baku in Azerbaijan and RC Cannes receives the Italians of Nordmeccanica Piacenza.
Newly promoted St. Raphaël produced the second surprise of the third round of the national league, claiming a five sets victory against Le Hainaut who falls down on the last place. Final score: 3-2 ((21-25, 25-12, 25-13, 21-25, 15-11).
ASPTT Mulhouse, currently sharing the first place with Nantes VB, claimed a fairly fought away win against Venelles (2-3 (16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 11-25, 7-15), while Le Cannet and Béziers crushed Terville-Florange, respectively Istres.
